Cmty Service - Pine Barrens - CANCELED

POSTPONED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE DUE TO WET WEATHER

Trail work in the Parker Preserve
Coordinated by the New Jersey Conservation Foundation

This expansive property encompasses almost 14 square miles in the heart of the New Jersey Pine Barrens, and is accessible by a network of sandy roads that wind though pitch pine forest and blueberry fields, and run along the preserve’s cedar swamp, shallow lakes and pristine tributaries of the West Branch of the Wading River.

Arrive at the Chatsworth Lake entrance to the Parker Preserve between 9:00 and 10:00 a.m. Driving time from Princeton is about an hour and fifteen minutes.

Trail work: We will be installing interpretive signs and doing trail clearing and maintenance.

Our work will end by 4:00 (followed by an optional one-hour trip to Apple Pie Hill).

Please bring: A daypack with lunch and beverages, insect repellent and work gloves. Wear appropriate clothing, especially long pants and shirts. Cameras and binoculars are recommended.

Tools, water and snacks will be provided.

Please see the NJCF website for more information and directions.

If you can spare a few hours before the trip, we highly recommend reading The Pine Barrens by John McPhee '53.

If you have questions, please contact Philo Elmer '69.

Please email Arlen Hastings '80 to let us know if you will be participating. Families are welcome. We will organize carpools if enough people are interested.

Volunteers will receive PA3 caps as long as the supply lasts.
