Chris Beha '02 Book Reading and Reception (by Mary Alice Teti '00)

I am proud to celebrate my brother, Christopher R. Beha, and the publication of his first book, The Whole Five Feet. Please join me in welcoming Chris to Princeton for a reading and reception. Chris majored in English and did a creative thesis at Princeton. While he was a senior and the VP of Tiger Inn, he was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. He is witty and charming, and his readings are really fun and funny - a great mix of high and low. His twin brother, Jim '02, was an officer at Cottage. I, Alice (Beha) Teti, was in the class of 2000, and my husband was '99. My dad, Jim Beha, was class of '71. We all figure in the story.

The Reading -- When and where:
Thursday, June 25th,6:00 PM
Labyrinth Books, 122 Nassau Street, Princeton

"Christopher Beha has written a unique memoir: intimate, confiding, deeply moving, and yet wonderfully informative and 'intellectual' in the very best sense of the word. Undertaking to read 'The Whole Five Feet' of classics of western civilation at a time of crisis in his personal life is an illuminating experience both for Mr. Beha and for the reader." -- Joyce Carol Oates

Community Service June 20th – Build a Playground, Get a Hat!

Help build a playground – and be among the first recipients of our brand-new, high-quality, tasteful-orange, PA3-logo-embellished, volunteer-appreciation baseball caps!

On Saturday, June 20, from 8:00am-12:00noon, PA3 members and their families and friends are invited to be part of the effort, coordinated by Rachel Riedl *08, to build a playground in Hopewell Township. Jobs are available at a range of skill levels, from novice to expert. Children are welcome; child care will be provided for ages 3-9, children 10-13 may work with a parent, and ages 14 and up may work independently.

Volunteers are asked to check in at the gazebo in Gazebo Park, 1 Columbia Avenue, Hopewell NJ, 08525, at the corner of Columbia and Greenwood Avenues. Please identify yourself as a PA3 volunteer so you’ll be directed to the location where our group will be working.

Be sure to sign up in advance at www.hopewellplayground.com/form.php so we’ll know who’s coming, and so you’ll receive parking information, updates and reminders. Please include “PA3” in the suggestion box at the bottom so Rachel can identify alumni volunteers. You are welcome to sign up for any and all shifts – but the morning shift on June 20 is where you’ll meet up with fellow alums and get your hat.

In recognition of the PA3 Community Service Committee's work to promote community spirit among area alumni, the Alumni Council awarded us a grant to fund the purchase of the hats. A condition of the grant is that we provide photos of hat-clad alumni at work on group projects, and this event will be our first opportunity to display our spirit in living color. If you wear orange gear too, so much the better. We hope to see you in Hopewell!

Networking Reception - June 24th, 6:00-7:30 PM

This summer, PA3 and the Office of Career Services at Princeton University are collaborating to host a networking reception for Princeton students and alumni who are living and working in the Princeton area this summer. Princeton students are extremely interested in obtaining information and advice about their future career options, while also developing skills and strategies for effectively networking for future internship and job search or preparation for graduate study. The event will feature a panel of alumni from various fields, sharing their insights on how Princeton has prepared them for future career options, success, and transitions. After a brief panel discussion, we will break into small groups by industry so that students can hear more directly from you about your career advice, stories, and information. We would like invite you to join the reception, providing students with the opportunity to interact with you while you also interact with your fellow alumni. Alumni of all classes welcome, but space is limited, so please reply quickly!

See http://princetonaaa.blogspot.com/2008/07/career-event.html for pictures and a description of last summer's event. This year's is sure to be a hit, as well.

Spring Networking Alumni-Student Mixer

I am looking forward to chairing our second alumni-student mixer and hope that you will join me, the PA3, Paula Chow and the Davis International Center at a reception on Friday, May 8, from 7 to 10PM at 81 Prospect Ave (formerly known as Stevenson Hall).

The reception is after dinner, but light food and drinks will be served. Over 80 alumni, students, faculty and staff attended our first event last November, which helped interested students and alumni pair up to discuss externships, careers, and jobs. The event was so successful that the students and alumni asked us to do it again!

Our Spring mixer will be casual and conversational. Students and alumni will participate in small discussion groups to talk about coping, careers, academic pursuits, life after Princeton, and networking. Both graduate and undergraduate students have been invited to the event, so I am sure that the student's needs and questions will be varied and interesting.

Our honorary guests at the reception are George Bustin '70 (visiting lecturer Woodrow Wilson School, Chair Princeton Alumni Schools Committee-Europe) and Satomi Chudasma (Assistant Director Princeton Career Service). Each will be sharing a brief talk on international affairs and networking.

Afterwards, students and alumni will have a chance to mingle and talk to each other and our distinguished guests.

If you consider attending, please RSVP by May 6 to me at princetonareaalumni@gmail.com.

Sincerely,
Cheryl

SEAS - APGA mixer

On April 14th, 2009, about 30 graduate alumni joined graduate students and SEAS faculty for the annual Princeton Engineering Graduate Student - Alumni Reception. The purpose of this reception was to let the SEAS graduate school alumni share their work experience with current graduate students to guide them in a choice of a career. Alumni also had a chance to identify possible Ph.D. and Masters level candidates for open positions at their company. This event was very timely considering the economic conditions this year.
